During the Week, AICTE announced approval to some institutions for running/offering programs/courses at Diploma and Degree level for working professionals in flexible timings/mode. As I have written earlier, India is experiencing a profound transformation in the dynamic landscape of education, thanks to the power of digital platforms.
The LEARN acronym presented below captures the pivotal role of these platforms in reshaping the educational paradigm. Leveraging Technology ensures that education is accessible to every corner of the country. Empowering Personalized Learning tailors education to individual needs, fostering comprehensive understanding. The rapid Adoption of remote learning platforms, accelerated by the pandemic, has made virtual education a norm. By Reinventing Skill Development, these platforms prepare students for a competitive job market. Finally, Nurturing Teacher-Student Connections preserves the essential human element in education, ensuring holistic development.
L - Leveraging Technology for Accessible Education: In India, the proliferation of digital platforms like BYJU's and Khan Academy has revolutionized learning, making educational content more accessible to students across the country. These platforms provide high-quality video lessons, interactive quizzes, and personalized learning journeys, ensuring that even remote and underserved areas have access to top-notch educational resources.
E - Empowering Personalized Learning: Platforms like Vedantu and Toppr in India empower personalized learning by offering adaptive learning solutions. They use artificial intelligence to assess each student's strengths and weaknesses and tailor the content accordingly. This personalized approach enhances students' understanding and mastery of subjects and allows them to learn at their own pace.
A - Adapting to Remote Education: The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of remote education platforms in India. EdTech giants like Unacademy and Coursera adapted swiftly to provide a seamless learning experience through live online classes, pre-recorded lectures, and interactive study materials. As a result, students could continue their education from the safety of their homes.
R - Reinventing Skill Development: Skill development platforms in India, such as Skill India and UpGrad, are redefining education by focusing on practical skills. These platforms offer a wide range of courses, from coding to data science, preparing students for the job market. This reinvention aligns with India's growing emphasis on vocational training and entrepreneurship.
N - Nurturing Teacher-Student Connections: While edtech platforms have transformed education, the role of the teacher remains paramount. Apps like Doubtnut and Teachmint enable teachers to connect with students, clarify doubts, and provide guidance. These platforms nurture the essential teacher-student bond, ensuring that students receive the support they need, even in a virtual setting.
In fact , I was part of Higher Education and School Leadership Symposium 2023 -an interaction with principals and administrators of the leading schools in Pune. I briefly spoke about changed role of Guru in the transformation happening in education. Over last decade or so, I have completed shifted to a role of facilitator instead of traditional role as fountainhead of knowledge in classroom. I often see my class as a collaborative learning experience with students and producing experiences which might help the students discover patterns or connect the dots.
To conclude, as digital platforms continue to redefine education in India, the LEARN framework encapsulates the essence of this change. By Leveraging Technology, Empowering Personalized Learning, rapidly Adopting digital solutions, Reinventing Skill Development, and Nurturing Teacher-Student Connections, India's education system is becoming more inclusive and adaptable.
We all can make a difference.

Over the Weeknd, I spent some time with the extraordinary team of Jivika Healthcare in Pune.
Since 2019 Jivika healthcare has served more than 2.5 million hard-to-reach populations within 40+ Districts of 6 States. They are continuously striving towards building an affordable healthcare ecosystem by serving people from all economic strata with their 3 verticals – VaccineOnWheels, ChemoAtHome & Public-private Partnerships. I am specially proud of two of IBS Hyderabad Alumni Jignesh Patel and Ankit Singh who are making a huge impact of lives of millions across the country.
Special mention of Krunal Mehta and Darshit Patel who are working hard to take Jignesh Patel’s vision to take healthcare services near the community by building an affordable, equitable and quality mobile healthcare ecosystem for the underserved within urban and rural India. I was fortunate to visit their field operations and was delighted to see the powerful relationships they have built with multiple stakeholders including general physicians.
The support from community focussed medical practitioners like Dr. Priya Sawle, Family Physician ENT Surgeon, Sawle Clinic is very heartening because of the impact that they can create amongst their neighbourhood communities.
More power to Dr Priya Sawle. May her tribe grow.
If you are looking to make a contribution to accessible healthcare as a medical professional, management expert or just volunteer or donor, please head to the OTM section below for more info.
