I had been thinking about how marketing has changed the nature of life and business in Goa where I was vacationing with family during the week and wrote a draft about how digital platforms are changing the nature of tourism industry and tourists themselves.
But then I was shocked to learn about the untimely demise of my senior colleague and mentor Prof M J Menon on Sunday afternoon.
It is with profound sadness that IBS Hyderabad announces the untimely demise of Prof. M J Menon, a senior colleague, mentor, and guiding light at IBS Hyderabad.
He passed away on Sunday afternoon, leaving behind a legacy of teaching, nurturing, and inspiring students and faculty members for over two decades. Prof. Menon was a pillar in the fields of B2B Marketing, International Marketing, and other marketing electives, shaping countless careers with his expertise and dedication.
His passion for teaching, his commitment to excellence, and his warm nature will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
His influence extended far beyond the classroom. As a mentor, Prof. Menon generously shared his wisdom and experience, guiding both students and younger faculty members with his thoughtful insights and unwavering support. He was instrumental in transforming the B2B Marketing elective into one of the most sought-after courses at IBS Hyderabad. Under his leadership, we witnessed record-breaking enrolment in 2024, with 500 students taking part in the course, eager to gain industry-ready skills under his expert guidance.
Prof. M J Menon championed experiential learning by organizing trade show visits for B2B Marketing students, bridging theory and practice. These immersive experiences allowed students to observe real-world applications, develop industry connections, and better understand B2B strategies, preparing them for future challenges and making the elective highly industry-relevant and placement-ready.
Personally, I had the privilege of sharing a deep bond with Prof. Menon. Our mutual love for the mountains, the outdoors, and B2B marketing fostered a relationship built on respect and camaraderie. Prof Menon never missed an opportunity to trek with Team Prakriti and would eagerly wait for the notification at the start of the academic year.
He would often visit my Hometown Rishikesh for his yoga and meditation camps and would come back to express his desire to go higher in Himalayas. I would forever regret that I could not plan for his CharDham Yatra in Garhwal Himalayas. Such is Life!
Prof. Menon leaves behind a rich legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of marketers and educators. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find strength in the love and admiration he garnered from all those he touched during his illustrious career.
Rest in Peace, Prof MJM.
May His soul Rest in peace 🙏🌸
