Yet again an interesting read Sir. Post Covid scenarios will definitely see major behavioural shifts in terms of discretionary spends by people and thus paradigm measures by industries will be need of the hour for atleast the remaining half of the year.
What is essential has already been reimagined in last few weeks. It is high time that the businesses take note of the new normal and start adapting themselves for the new reality.
To add on to the point of feed the daily wager project many NGOs are also coming up to support people where there is scarcity of food. "The Art of living" foundation is also volunteering and providing essential groceries, cooked food to the people who depend on daily wages to feed their family. Another interesting thing that I liked about the foundation is that they opened a national helpline number where the counselors of the foundation help people who all are having stress and anxiety during this pandemic which I personally feel is a great initiative.
Well written summary of the present situation. Hope it will narrate, motivate and inspire the audience. I pray that your effort should go to bigger audiences early.
Coach, a good read indeed. I very much agree to your point that food is a multisided challenge. Surely, nowadays a lot of platforms, organisations (as a part of csr activity) are coming up to help the low wage earners. However, have you noticed that the political parties are still there to play their games during this crisis (to help the needy). Ultimately, the poor people are getting benefited. That is what is required. Yet, i feel some act should be done keeping humanity in mind, then it becomes a good deed.
As you rightly ended with the prayer, which is actually the need of the hour.
I was hearing a lot cries from Affiliate Marketers in a Digital Marketing Facebook Group I am part of. Almost ever one was commenting that they almost had 90% of their monthly income coming from affiliate commission & how Amazon had reduced that commission by upto 40%. I understand the reason now.
Platform businesses specially in the Food Delivery domain are facing a strong backlash from the Restauranteur Fraternity in UAE. I saw a post where more than 100 UAE restaurant owners have boycotted platforms owing to their high revenue sharing structure. When I further delved into the post, there were clear calculations of how much does a restaurant end up making on a 100 AED order on a platform. They certainly are bleeding. Restauranteurs are launching WhatsApp Campaigns, requesting customers to order directly by calling, mailing or whatsapping.
Whats interesting is - When I think about conducting Business in current situation as a Platform. How these businesses have managed permissions, resources, Human Capital, changes in tech stack and aligning various internal and external stake holders at such a short notice, ensuring safety is unthinkable. Saw some amazing pivots and collaborations which clearly demonstrates that these companies are being led by some great leaders, orchestrating the best teams.

Some of the platforms have shown extraordinary resilience. And I am sure that they would thrive during and after the crisis.
Some of the crashes that we are seeing now were already had weak cash flows and hence this could be good weeding mechanism. The human cost has to be managed better.
Thank you sir for considering my previous week's point and writing about it. Mobilizing the frassroots and making them a part of the center is difficult, however these examples of organization gives hope. Yours comment in the last part of the article makes me think about the term that people are using now a days and that is 'need based economy'. Are we moving towards it? Or its just the need of the hour and there won't be a paradigm shift in the consumers definition of needs and wants?
Good read, as always. I want to know who coined the term "social distancing" (rhetorical question hai :)
because what we need is physical distance. all the incredible work that civil society organisations, health workers and committed individuals are doing right now, for relief, risking their lives, is in fact closing the social distance. also, a country as divided as ours (class, caste, gender, ethnicity etc.) cant afford another form of distancing. we are already dealing with the ghosts of the past.
that said, you might find this interesting "united states of amazon"!!!
In fact, one of my earlier newsletter issue discussed physical distancing and removing emotional distances ! Though there are enough signals that we might be creating new kind of social stratification.
To give credit where it is due, between state and ech enabled platforms , I guess latter have been more at the forefront. Can that whitewash earlier and current malpractices ? Of course not. They must be kept in check like any other monopoly.
then, i would say, at least within this community, which is much more sensitised than the rest, let us refrain from using this phrase, be the change that we want to be....set example and inspire others.
Very well written . We are yet to seen the behavioural change among consumers post covid 19 and the spending pattern . Platform business like Uber would take sometime to take off in coming few years .
There would be some change in consumer buying behaviour going forward but the extent is still an unknown. Platforms would have different trajectory depending on their "essentialness" for post Covid recovery.
Mental health is crucial at this time. As there would be relapses as well as new developments. As individuals it's good to stay connected with everyone you know and care about, specially the ones who may be alone at home due to lockdown or are in uncomfortable situations.

Mental health would be key to survive this crisis and such initiative would do wonders in helping us cope up with the stress and anxiety.

All of us are together in this crisis !

Nice perspective, Jitendra.

I would not count too much on that ! Be ready for the barrage of advertising asking you to catch up with "lost" time !

Very engaging!
