Yes sir, it's true that tourism industry is facing huge revenue loss of almost Rs.1.25 trillion due to shut down of hotels and suspension of flights. It created fear among 3.8 crore people who are working in this industry. Even the flagship events of 2020 like Olympics in Tokyo and Expo in Dubai have been shifted to next year. But every dark brings new ray of hope like ITC designed programme 'we assure' build on 3 pillars-health,hygiene and safety. Therefore hoping for the best we can say only that this darkness will definitely lead to new morning and new positive change.

Great insight, Abhilasha ! The human cost in terms of unemployment and economic crisis for smaller entrepreneurs in both travel and tourism has been devastating. The small homestay and travel partners have seen the business plummet to zero in tourist destinations in many states including Uttarakhand. These entrepreneurs are completely dependent on revenue during the short travel season to sustain them throughout the year. I am joining in prayer with you that all of us emerge out of this darkness together.

Backpacking and low cost travel seems like a dream now. Yesterday only I was talking to a friend who had planned a trek for this week. Just to pacify him and add fun to the conversation, I suggested the zoom virtual background option 😁

Virtual Zoom background is what it is ! Virtual !

But once your soul has been touched by the mountains or sea, then there is no going back ! Low cost travel would be the worst hit !

The CX with 3S factor you shared was really good way to how business reacts to post covid situation. This time not only consumer behavior is changing but Business is also Changing their way of doing business is more interesting.

Consumer behaviour changes but business adapt to it over a period of time. Covid 19 has been an accelerant and businesses have been grappling with understanding and reposing to it simultaneously. Exciting days ahead.

In times like these when the world has come to a standstill and 'normal' travel seems like a far cry, I feel fortunate to be stranded here and stranded for good 😃

Sustainable travel is the only way forward besides maintaining hygiene and cleanliness. We have abused nature enough and now is the time to reflect and set things right. Hope things improve from here on! 🙏🙏

you had me in splits with United Breaks Guitars. :D :D

yesterday we drove till the third intersection from my house, to fill in petrol, that's about a km and a half and i said.... "that's the farthest i have traveled in last three months". to be categorised under things-i-said-for-first-time-because-of-covid.

one thing totally amusing about this covid, for me, is all these new feelings, experiences and anxieties. we are probably the first ones to go through such a crisis (and hopefully the last ones too), and we will hopefully live long enough to tell these tales.

That video marked a split in the way service companies handled customer grievances and was a sort of harbinger of social media activism that we encounter today.

It is definitely once in a generation event and hopefully we would have "good" stories to share !

Finally, I am back after the turmoil. 😄

Your newsletters are informative as always.

The United breaks guitars is hilarious and I literally agree that post Covid-19, we would actually have to bear the tantrums of airlines.

I have never been on a trek. After I started running (also saw you trekking), I really longed to go on a trek. Hopefully, I will be able fulfil this desire of mine someday 😀

Travelling and trekking also reminded me of running event organisers. India has seen a lot of people driving themselves towards fitness part 3-4 years. The running events (Go Heritage run etc) or marathon events are slowly gaining popularity as well. So Coach, how do you see this business getting affected?

I did not want to overdo with running events but there is a new category of virtual runs being organised by various running group and event management companies. I am not a big fan myself but it serves multiple stakeholders. Many marathons including Airtel Hyderabad Marathon remain suspended and rightly so. It would take some time to revive the group running events in India and abroad.
